Irish Government Issues Safety Alert for Citizens in Gulf
03 February 2026
The Department of Foreign Affairs has formally advised Irish nationals living in Gulf countries — including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait — to remain indoors where possible and “shelter in place” as regional security risks intensify.
The advisory comes after rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East following reported military strikes involving Iran. Several Gulf states have experienced temporary airspace closures, flight diversions, and heightened military alert levels. As a result, Irish citizens have been strongly discouraged from undertaking non-essential travel until the situation stabilizes.
The Irish government has activated a crisis management team in Dublin to coordinate real-time monitoring and consular assistance. Irish embassies across the Gulf region are working closely with local authorities to ensure citizens receive timely updates, safety guidance, and emergency contact support.
Officials have also urged Irish nationals to register their presence through embassy portals, keep communication devices fully charged, and follow verified government channels for updates. While no direct threat to Irish citizens has been confirmed, authorities stress that precautionary measures are necessary given the rapidly evolving regional environment.
